Crazy hippies.

For many of you, the saga of Zoltan and Lauren has, from the start, been one of fast decisions and crazy ideas that some people might not have liked, but we’re not most people and we don’t really do things the way they’re normally done.

In any case, for the past few months we’ve been working at Pioneer Ranch in Rocky Mountain House, AB. It’s been difficult, peaceful, stressful, relaxing, and frustrating all in one. I was the office assistant, and Zoltan was the Food Services Manager. The whole time we were there, we were wondering about the future, thinking of different directions and options, and trying to decide what we should do when our time at Pioneer was over.

Somewhere along the way, we lost our sense of adventure.

We started talking of settling down, getting salary jobs, maybe even buying a house. And then in the midst of the settling, Zoltan had an idea: What if we drove to every Circle Square Ranch and worked for a week or so at each one over the course of the summer?

I dismissed this idea at first. We couldn’t just up and leave. And we didn’t talk about it for a few weeks…things were going well at Pioneer, so why would we leave?

As planning began for summer camp, we realized that if we stayed at Pioneer, by the end of the summer we would both be worn out, tired, and we wouldn’t have spent any valuable time together during our first married summer.

So we revisited that idea…and that’s what we’re doing!

We’re starting in Halkirk, and journeying onto Saskatchewan, Manitoba, spending a few days in the states, then Brantford, ON, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and back to Ontario for the last two Ranches, ending at Severn Bridge for teen week.

I decided to start a little blog so we can keep in touch and let our friends know what’s going on. We want you to be part of this adventure, too!

So get ready…10 days until we begin with our first stop in Halkirk, AB!
